Because of our proximity to a great variety of natural and agricultural plant communities in the Sacramento Valley, the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountains, and the northern Great Basin, the Land Stewardship program is ideally situated to study land stewardship and natural resources management (Land Stewardship Instructional Resources).
Our program in Land Stewardship prepares students to manage either the mostly public wildlands and rangelands for the production of goods and services, or the private/public lands at the urban/rural interface for the protection or restoration of agricultural and natural resources. The program consists therefore of two parallel advising patterns: Wildland-Range Science Concentration and Land Stewardship Concentration. Students in the Land Stewardship Option have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and staff who bring an excellent balance of academic and work experience to the option (Land Stewardship Faculty and Staff). Career opportunities may be found in urban, agricultural, parkland, rangeland, and wildland environments with private landowners, public agencies, and land conservancies.
The first 2 years of this 4-year academic program are largely devoted to lower division General Education and College Core requirements which may be completed at many Community Colleges in the State or at the CSU, Chico campus. The last 2 years are primarily devoted to Wildland-Range Science and Land Stewardship courses. Reviewing the major academic plan can provide you with a better idea of the courses available to students taking the Land Stewardship Option.
