Welcome to the ARTC Swine Unit! The Swine Unit strives to support the educational mission of the College of Agriculture by providing a uniform herd of breeding seedstock in a clean environment, for the purposes of teaching, research and outreach.
The Herd:
35 Registered Yorkshire sows consisting entirely of genetics imported
directly from Lorenzen Farms in Chrisman, Illinois.
Goal is to maintain 35 sows that will produce two litters every year and
consistently provide animals for educational and research-oriented purposes.
February through May farrowings will be primarily terminal with the project pig market as the
central target.
Remaining offspring will be produced to supply
purebred replacement animals to an expanding market.
Security:
High health program maintained to ensure viability.
