When asked how he got involved in the
agriculture industry Luke Konyn simply stated, “I’ve been helping on
the farm since I could walk.” Not much has changed for the junior
plant science and agricultural business double major. He is still as
involved in the agriculture industry today as he was when he was a
little boy.
Konyn’s involvement spreads far past working on
the farm in Durham with his dad, uncle, and cousin. He is also a
member of the CSU, Chico Plant Science Club and is involved in Young
Farmers and Ranchers, a group of active agriculturalists between the
ages of 18 and 35 who develop leadership skills through active
involvement in the Farm Bureau organization. Looking back at the
experience CSU, Chico offered him, Konyn said, “Going to Chico State
has allowed me to stay and work on the family farm, which is really
important during harvest time and other busy times of the year.”
Konyn, who interned at Helena Chemical Company
last summer, is currently working at Tractor Supply Company. His
work experience will continue to help him as he pursues
certification in plant protection by obtaining his PCA license. Dr.
Richard Rosecrance said, “Luke is a clear thinker and a hard
worker. I think he will make an excellent plant scientist.”
