Megan Tipton – Animal Science

While many students enter the agriculture industry hoping to raise animals or work with crops, one ChicoState senior is taking her experience to the Capitol.Megan Tipton has been involved with agriculture since she was a child, and she realizes how important it is to make sure the industry continues to flourish.

“There are a lot of political issues that the agriculture world has to deal with, and there are not a lot of people to support them,” Tipton said. “My family has a background in agriculture which is why this is a personal issue for me.”
With a minor in political science, Tipton plans to take her experiences to legislature and fight for the rights of the industry she was raised in.Some of her experiences include an internship last summer in WashingtonD.C.Tipton was a policy intern for 10 weeks where she dealt with all legislative aspects of working for cattlemen, attended congressional hearings and researched different legislative issues concerning the cattle industry.

During her time at ChicoState, Tipton has been president of the Young Cattlemen’s Association, a member of the Chico State Livestock Judging Team, and student herdsman for the beef unit.This summer she will intern in Wally Herger’s office as well as manage the beef unit for the summer.

After graduation in December, Tipton plans to attend graduate school and get her masters in public administration.

“Immediately after I hope to have a job within the political aspect of agriculture,” Tipton said.“I feel very strongly that the agriculture industry needs representation when it comes to policy.”
