The College of Agriculture has made good use of partnerships to enhance our instructional program while at the same time improving our ability to serve the North State. Successful partnerships include:
Regional Walnut Variety Trial that was designed by UC Cooperative Extension, established using industry funding, and maintained by the College of Agriculture. The walnut variety trail serves as the site for an annual walnut day event and is also used for our orchard and nut crop course.
The regional Almond Variety Trial is also a partnership between local producers, nurseries, UC Cooperative Extension and the College of Agriculture.
The Irrigation Training Facility represents a partnership between the US Bureau of Reclamation, California Public Utilities Commission, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fresno State University, and the College of Agriculture. The Irrigation Training Facility has been used by a number of different groups to support grower education programs that focus on pump and water delivery technology. The facility also provides a unique resource to enhance our undergraduate program.
Sierra Nevada Brewery Natural Beef Project is a partnership between Sierra Nevada Brewery, A.L. Gilbert, and Fairfield Feeds and the College of Agriculture. The partnership provides our students with an opportunity to take part in an effort to develop a niche beef product, manage a small scale feedlot operation, evaluate an effort to utilize a food processing by-product, and gain a better understanding of the dynamics of managing a meat processing operation to meet the demands of a restaurant.
